How to Create and Set Up a PayPal Account

This guide will show you how to create a PayPal account so you can securely send and receive payments online. PayPal is helpful for purchasing tools, services, and resources, including those recommended throughout the Unchained Leader journey.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready:

• A valid email address
  
  

• A mobile phone number
  
  

• A secure password you’d like to use
  
  

• Optional: A debit/credit card to link for payments
  
  

Step 1: Visit the PayPal Website or Download the PayPal App

• On desktop: Go to www.paypal.com
  
  

• On mobile: Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android)
  
  

• Search for PayPal and tap Download or Install
  
  

• Open the app once it’s installed
  
  

Step 2: Tap or Click “Sign Up”

• Tap or click Sign Up for Free
  
  

• Choose Personal Account (for individuals—not business)
  
  

• Tap or click Next
  
  

Step 3: Enter Your Mobile Number

• Type in your mobile number
  
  

• Tap or click Next
  
  

• PayPal will text you a verification code
  
  
  

Step 4: Enter the Code You Receive

• Check your text messages for a 6-digit code
  
  

• Type the code into PayPal to verify your number
  
  

Step 5: Add Your Email

• Enter your email address

• Tap or click Next

Step 6: Create a Password

• Choose a strong password 

(use letters, numbers, and symbols)

• Tap or click Next
  
  

Step 7: Enter Your Name And Your Mailing Address 

• Enter your first and last name

• Enter your home address
  
  

• Tap or click Agree and Create Account
  
  
  

Step 8: Link a Debit/Credit Card

• You’ll now be prompted to link a card
  
  

• You can skip this and do it later, or continue:
  
  

  • Enter your debit/credit card details 
    
    
    

• Tap or click Link Card

Step 9: Confirm Your Email Address

• Check your inbox for a confirmation email from PayPal
  
  

• Click the confirmation link inside to activate your account
  
  

Step 10: You're Done!

• Your PayPal account is now set up
  
  

• You can now send money, receive money, and shop online
  
  

• Log in anytime at paypal.com or from the PayPal app
