How to Create a Google Account

This guide will walk you through the steps to create a free Google account. As part of the Unchained Leader program, you’ll need a Google account to access shared Google Drive document templates as part of your lesson assignments using Google Docs or Sheets. 

This guide is for anyone who does not yet have a Google account or needs to create one dedicated to their Unchained Leader program access.

 
Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready before starting this guide:

  • A mobile device or computer with internet access

  • A web browser (Google Chrome is recommended)

  • An email address you’d like to use, or be ready to create a new Gmail address

  • A phone number or backup email for recovery verification

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open your browser and search for “Google Account”

  • Use Safari, Chrome, or any browser

  • In the search bar, type Google Account

  • Click on the result that says Create a Google Account


Step 2: Choose "Create Account"

  • Click on Create account

  • Select For myself


Step 3: Enter your name

  • Type in your first and last name

  • Click Next


Step 4: Enter your date of birth and gender

  • Add your birthday (must be over 18)

  • Choose your gender (optional)

  • Click Next


Step 5: Choose your email address

  • You can create a new Gmail address, or

  • Click Use my existing email address to use an address from another provider (like Yahoo or Hotmail)


Step 6: Set your password

  • Create a secure password and confirm it by typing it again

  • You may click “Show password” to check that both match

  • Click Next


Step 7: Add a recovery email (optional)

  • Enter a backup email address in case you lose access to your new account

  • Click Next


Step 8: Agree to the Terms

  • Review Google’s Terms and Conditions

  • Scroll down and click I agree


Step 9: You're all set!

  • Your Google account is now active

  • You can use this account to sign in to Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and submit assignments for Unchained Leader
